Well Halloween has fast approached and its one of the most enjoyable family times of the year, not only for children but for adults as well and there is no reason that your Chi’s should be left at home when they can be included safely in the fun as well.
Chi’s are one of the most character filled breeds around. Anyone that owns or has owned a Chihuahua understand how much fun it can be to put dog clothes on our tiny four-legged friends, and how much they can enjoy it if it’s done right and you get them used to it and it is comfortable for them. Most chi’s love the attention and as Halloween can get very cold after dark the short-haired ones love the added warmth. So, when it comes to being the center of attention and getting tons of kisses, I doubt many Chihuahuas would mind at all.
The main things to consider are make sure the clothing is comfortable and visible for safety.
Comfortable dog clothing is important not just because it will make your friend feel better but he will never wear another costume or clothing again. If the costume is heavy, scaring him, trails on the ground or rubs him he will be miserable and he will make sure that the night is over very quickly no matter how much you want to Trick or Treat. On the other hand a flimsy dress or ruffles may look adorable but he will be cold so go for something that will keep him warm…they are only little!
Last Halloween Enzo went as Superman, I was going to use the same costume this year but one of the gang decided that it made a good chew toy and looked better with a bit of shredding so another costume was needed. I wanted him and the other chi’s to have just as much fun as me so, this year he is going dressed as a monster and has been wearing his costume all ready to get used to it. It’s perfect for him as its simple and comfortable and I don’t have to worry about him tripping over or getting frightened by any elaborate costume. He loves it already and has been wearing and playing in it with the others. I am sure everyone that he meets on Halloween will too and he will get all the attention a Chi loves…..remember kisses and compasion are required. Chocolate and candy are a no go.
